How to edit a PDF online

Why edit a PDF instead of the original file
Often the source document simply is not available. A contract arrives as a PDF and needs initialling, a form has to be completed and returned, a scanned invoice needs a reference number, or a diagram needs a label before it goes into a report. Editing the PDF directly avoids chasing the author for a Word file, and keeps the layout everyone else has already reviewed.
About what this editor does and does not do
This is an overlay editor: it adds new elements on top of your pages rather than rewriting the text already in the document, so it will not reflow an existing paragraph. To change wording that is already there, use Edit PDF Text instead. Layout is arranged in the browser but the final PDF is generated server-side for one credit, which is what makes placement predictable across viewers. Practical ceilings apply — 30 pages, 100 fields per page and 500 in total, 2 MiB per image and 10 MiB of raster data — and because the output is regenerated, existing forms, bookmarks, links and digital signatures are not guaranteed to survive.

- Can I edit a PDF online by changing existing words?
- Not with this general PDF editor. It lets you edit a PDF online by placing new fields over existing pages; it does not semantically change or reflow the original paragraphs. Use Text Replacement to cover and replace a selected text region.
- What can I add to a PDF?
- You can add text, images, lines, rectangles, and ellipses. Signature and QR-code fields require premium access. These are visual additions rather than editable AcroForm fields.
- What are the editor limits?
- A document can have up to 30 pages, 100 fields per page, and 500 fields overall. Each embedded image is limited to 2 MiB, total raster image data to 10 MiB, and the submitted editor payload to 8 MiB.
- Will links, forms, bookmarks, and signatures remain intact?
- The final PDF is generated on the server and costs one credit. Preservation of interactive forms, bookmarks, links, metadata, and existing digital signatures is not guaranteed; regeneration or any visible edit can invalidate signatures. Verify complex documents after export.
